About Me

Here's a bit about me:

Anna Gilgur

Who I am

Born and raised in a small town in Wisconsin. My parents, Soviet refugees who rebuilt everything from scratch, passed on a restless curiosity to me. That curiosity took me to LA and USC.

Humans are systems of systems and I studied biomedical engineering to build for that reality. My belief is that the future of medicine will be written in code as much as in labs or clinics. Since then I’ve worked in management consulting in Tel Aviv, studied at the top University in Asia (NUS in Singapore), and have hit 34 countries. All of this has pushed my thinking wider and wider.

Today I work in the space where AI meets medicine, where we use deep learning to automate the interpretation of echocardiograms—the ultrasound movies of your heart. I believe that this technology will change cardiology in ways we still don't realize. Bringing heart screening to the masses will add a few decades to everyone’s life. Give us enough training data and maybe we’ll crack the “live-forever” patch release... although I'm hearing breakthroughs in coronary artery disease is what will get us there ;)

It's more exhilarating—and more unpredictable—than the consulting path I once planned, and I wouldn't trade it.

When I finally get to shut my laptop, you’ll find me seasoning my wok for another Thai recipe, hiking all over LA, or queueing up progressive house for a spontaneous drive up the coast. And recently, making tiktoks about the nichest food finds in LA. Family, friends, and good food keep me grounded; surprise fun facts and last-minute flight deals keep me moving.

Fun Facts About Me

Languages

I speak Russian—grew up with it, in fact. Keeping it sharp is mostly about being able to call my grandparents without resorting to charades (but trust me FaceTime is often used). I am also fluent in ordering from the LA taco stands in Spanish!

Favorite Reads

I do my best to stay up to speed on tech and AI...mostly through an ever-growing stack of Substacks. I'm a staunch follower of The Infatuation (some of the best foods recs I've seen), and lately I’ve been deep in NotebookLM—I can now consume endless publications (they basically turn them into podcasts 😉).

Food Philosophy

Food is love. I cook almost every night I’m not hunting down the best food in LA. I’m always testing new recipes—though let’s be honest, I rarely write them down or follow one to begin with.

Restless Curiosity

I thrive on momentum. I’m constantly in motion.

LA Life

Hikes, comedy shows, food pop-ups, coffee house EDM sets, last-minute road trips...I've loved living here for the last 5 years, and I try to experience as much of it as I can. I also created @nicheeatsLA, where we document the hidden food finds that make this city so delicious.

Looking Ahead

There’s a growing gap between AI, law, and intellectual property—and I plan to be at the intersection. It’s where I see myself making real impact in the years ahead.

Based in Los Angeles

At the intersection of the dessert, mountains and coast... and don't forget tech, culture, and some of the best food in the country.
